What is the reason behind a star (*) mark in between series and number on some Indian currency notes

    What is the reason behind a star (*) mark in between series and number on some Indian currency notes? Anyone has some idea about this, please throw some light on it..

    During printing of notes if found any mistake in this series number then it will be replaced by *...

    Notes are not arranged in their serial no even in new packets as well thats why it has been marked *

    Those notes are called Star Notes.It is the replacement of defective note which is non sequential randomized number given by RBI for increase in operational purpose.

    soiled/cut notes returned bck to RBI are printed again with similar Ser No and re-circulated. * series indicates the above

    Star series notes are issued by Rbi to replace wrongly printed note
     
  8. Reissued notes in place of either soiled/mutilated or misprinted notes with same printed number bears star mark.

    *series not can be issued only up to 100 rs denomination...so it is fake onr

    Earlier i also had seen this asterisk mark on 1000 notes even, but today 1st time saw ths on a new 500 note

    During sequential printing of notes if some issue happens and could not resume the print from where it left. They will restart printing the same sequence with an additional star.

    If there is a printing mistake in the series of a bundle then the wrong printed or imperfect bank will be again printed by * Mark.........with same series

    It is the note which is included in packet but not in serial no order.

    It is used to replace any misprinted or damaged note in a packet of 100 notes. And that packet comes with blue strip on it.

    It's original When in a bundle of note the series of the notes mismatch then they put a note with this * mark

    In sequential printing of notes from 000001 to 1000000 ..this is last note i.e. 1000000th note...as note serial no contains 6 numeric digits but 1000000 contains 7 digit, hence rbi put * while printing....in every 1000000 note 1 note contains *This is told by rbi officials in a training provided for detection of counterfeit note.
