The comparison between bank pass book and cash book shows that bank debited a cheque of Rs.3000 to firm’s account while the cheque related to some other firm’s account. A cheque of rs.2000 deposited with the bank has not been credited so far. The balance in firm’s overdraft account as per cash book is Rs.40000. The balance in the pass book would be Rs. ...... a. 45000 b. 41000

If we assume opening balance as 40000 Dr. then Balance as per passbook will be 43000 Dr.

cash book overdraft is Rs.42000.firm deposit cheque Rs.2000 .so finally they updated cash book as 40000. Question it's self clearly shown as bank made a mistake so take a cash book amount as right one. So real overdraft amount is 42000 after that bank by mistakenly debited 3000 so overdraft is 45000 . Cheque yet to clear so no question of adding or subtracting that in passbook.
